Hyderabad airport metro to have an underground corridor

The Hyderabad metro corridor between Raidurg to Shamshabad is planned to have an underground section of 2.5 km. This corridor will connect to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) directly.

To accelerate commutation to the Hyderabad airport, the Telangana state Government plans the expansion of the Blue Line metro corridor from Raidurg to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad.

This urban infrastructure development will begin in Phase II.

N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail (HAML), the State government has set-up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), HAML. This is jointly promoted by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA). Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail will be the developing authority of the 31 km-long Airport Express Metro. This corridor is planned to have an elevated stretch of 27.5 km.

Rs. 5,000 crore is the estimated cost of this project and HAML is waiting for the go-ahead signal from the Government to complete technical and financial bids. The Telangana state government will offer some financial assistance to this project.

MD, Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail further said that HAML could either bear the entire cost of the project or the firm can take up 10 percent financial assistance from the Central Government of the overall design.

The Government will offer financial assistance as per the terms and conditions.
