In a major development, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has recently sanctioned 94,000 affordable units to be constructed in Maharashtra. The authority has also approved Rs 19,000 crore for the development of these affordable units.

According to the officials, all these units will be constructed under the central government’s ambitious initiative ‘Housing for all by 2022’ that will provide homes to the lower-income and the economically-weaker section (EWS) of the society.

Giving more information on the above, a senior CIDCO official said, “of the 94,000, over 53,000 houses will be constructed for the LIG and the rest will be developed for the EWS category. All these housing units will be in proximity to bus and truck terminals as well as suburban railway stations.”

He further informed that the construction of the houses will start once the project will be certified by Maha RERA.

In another development, the authority has also planned to start the trial run for the metro corridor between Belapur to Pendhar in next two days. CIDCO is also planning to invite Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis for the same. Before this, the metro authorities will complete preliminary charging of the depot and other mandatory tests after which permission from the Commissioner of Railway Safety and other authorities will be granted for the Trail-run.
