Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail: Operations to commence from March 2024

In order to kick-start the work on Delhi-Metro Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS), UP Chief Secretary has planned to meet all the stakeholders, of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and Meerut Development Authority (MDA). The meeting will take place on April 29, 2019.

One of the most ambitious projects, Delhi-Metro RRTS will not only end traffic woes between the two cities but will also give a boost to the economic and real estate activities. As per the senior government official, the plan is to start the operations between Sahibabad and Duhai stretch from March 2023, while the complete project is expected to commence operations from March 2024.

Elaborating more information on the same, a senior official said, “To avoid any kind of obstruction during the project the officials have already formed three levels of monitoring and coordination committee. The pre-construction work on the first stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai has started by these committees,”

These works include widening of roads, cutting of trees, designing and geotechnical examination. Further, the officials have decided to carry on the construction work in two phases. Contracts for the same will be granted soon to the best company.

Recently the central government has given its approval to the 82 km long project that will start from Sarai Kale Khan and end at Modipuram in Meerut. The estimated cost of the complete project is Rs 30,274. Once operational, it will just take 62 minutes to reach Meerut from Delhi which is definitely a boon the daily commuters. There will be a total of 16 stations of which 6.35 km will be elevated and 30.25 km will be underground.
