Elevated Expressway to connect Signature Bridge with DND Flyway in Delhi

Delhi News

In order to provide smooth connectivity to daily commuters between North and East Delhi, the Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi Government has sanctioned a new elevated expressway that will connect Signature Bridge to DND Flyway in Mayur Vihar, East Delhi. This will be 18 km long stretch that will reduce the traveling time of the commuters and save them from being stuck into traffic.

Giving information on the above, a senior PWD official said, “The 18-km long elevated road will connect Signature Bridge with the Salimgarh Fort bypass and then go to ITO before merging with DND. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2500 crore and will be a six-lane signal-free corridor.”

He further informed that the department has decided to build a road parallel to Outer Ring Road near Majnu Ka Tila and Sarai Kale Khan. The whole road will connect several bridges such as Signature Bridge, Loha Pul, Geeta Colony Bridge, Vikas Marg, Nizamuddin Bridge; the Barapullah Phase-III elevated road and finally the DND Flyway.

The project will be completed in two phases. As per the official, the first phase will be developed between Signature Bridge and Salimgarh Fort bypass, while the second phase will connect the rest of the locations to the DND.

However, an earlier plan on this route which was even shorter than the current proposed route got scrapped after disapproval from senior officials. “The initial plan connecting the expressway to existing roads would have reduced the total distance to 12 km, but ensuring minimal connection with the existing roads by constructing the elevated expressway running parallel to the Yamuna stretched it by 6 km” official added.

At present, some feasibility tests are going on the proposed route. Till the time these tests get completed, the officials are acquiring various permissions so that they can start the construction work as soon as possible.
